Özet (EN)

This thesis examines Eric Hoffer's theories on mass movements and revolutions through the example of the 1952 Egyptian Revolution. Hoffer's theories provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the psychology of leaders and followers of revolutionary movements. The research demonstrates that the determination and leadership qualities exhibited by Gamal Abdel Nasser, the leader of the Egyptian Revolution at its inception, align well with Hoffer's theories. The thesis argues that Nasser largely embodies the characteristics of a mass leader as defined by Hoffer. Additionally, the study highlights how revolutionary movements often revolve around extremism and intolerance, and how these ideological rigidities create blindness to criticism. Hoffer's concept of "True Believers" effectively explains the strong commitment of mass leaders and followers to their ideals and their resilience against criticism. In conclusion, this study contributes to the psycho-political analysis of mass movements and revolutions with Hoffer's theories, providing a strong theoretical framework for future research. Key Words: Eric Hofer, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt Revolution, Mass Movement
