Abstract (EN)
Celebration styles of May 19 holidays and their development are important themes in social history. Official holidays are days that play an important role in uniting societies, strengthening the sense of national unity and solidarity, and transferring common values to new generations. May 19, 1919 was the day Gazi Mustafa Kemal landed in Samsun. This important day was recognized as a national holiday by Gazi Mustafa Kemal with the law dated June 20, 1938. In the first part, the historical background of the concept of nationalism, the relationship between state and nationalism, the emergence of nationalism in different periods and its impact on society, and in the second part, the 19 May Atatürk commemoration holiday and that day are explained. This study looked at the impact of the Youth and Sports Day of May 19, 1919, which is considered a national holiday, in the period from 1960 to 1980, and focused on issues such as what activities were carried out and the level of public participation.
