Social life in Turkey in the period 1960-65

Turkey entered after the May 27 military coup a new and different era. Turkey, which was governed by military administration for more than a year after the National Unity Committee came to administration, met coalition governments for the first time with the 1961 elections. In the period 1960-65, which was extremely intensive socially and politically, significant developments have been experienced and the firsts have been witnessed from domestic policy to foreign policy. While the developments in social life have progressed in parallel with the developments in political life, the issue of amnesty has long occupied the country's agenda, land reform has become a problem that is constantly waiting to be solved. The problem of immigration and slums has grown like a snowball depending on developments in social and economic life. Labor movements have become a collective movement, and there have been changes with the action of practices such as strikes and lockouts in working life. The health system shaken by epidemics and lack of personnel has affected social life. The most important need of the education system was physical; lack of staff was also felt apart from need of the building and classroom. While changes in the education system bring the need for stability, the centralization movement in higher education has also been seen in cultural and religious fields. There was a very difficult period economically; the conditions of life have put citizens in a bottleneck. The period of 1960-65 attracted attention with all the difficulties, astonishment and disorder as well as disasters, calamity and accidents, Turkey had noteworthy days with drought and thirst. This period, which we are trying to examine in different ways; it is important for future periods and generations in order to draw some conclusions and learn lessons from the developments, sufferings and experiences gained.
