Presentation of consciousness in 1980's Turkish novel

A military coup against the government took place on September 12, 1980, when the ideological differences, chaotic situation and economic problems that had sharpened in the late 1970s reached a serious level. People started to withdraw with the effect of modernization and urbanization, which increased the social pressure due to the formation of the coup government. Literature was also affected by this introversion process, and by giving up telling external reality, it turned to the individual, the inner, and consciousness. In this thesis, the novels of this period and period in which the individual returned to himself were examined in detail, and the sample selected from the ten-year universe was examined in detail with Dorrit Cohn's theory of consciousness transfer that appeared in the book Transparent Minds. Dorrit Cohn also discussed the relationship between narrator and fictional character in his work. In the first part of this thesis, Dorrit Cohn's views in Transparent Minds: Presentation of Consciousness in Fictional Works are summarized and the relationship between narrator-character in first and third person works is discussed. In the second part, twelve novels written in the decade after the 1980 period were selected and analyzed Dorrit Cohn's narrator-character relationship based on the theory of presentation of consciousness in the first- and third-person context.
