A review of the development of authoritarian neoliberalism in Turkey through the continuity and transformation in the after 1980 strike bans

Authoritarianism, which has recently risen, is the source of the effort to make sense of the period passed through. The experience of authoritarianism that has intensified in the last decade in Turkey is an important example in this sense. Accordingly, the experience of authoritarianism, which has deepened in the recent period, has been determinant in the attempt to define this transformation in the literature without being free from the emerging authoritarianism practices in the world. This study aims to examine the development of authoritarian neoliberalism in the post-1980 period through the continuity and transformation of strike bans in Turkey, based on the discussions of authoritarianism in the literature. This study, which defends that the authoritarianism experienced in the current situation has continuity with the neoliberal transformation after 1980, aims to investigate the effect of the differentiation in the capacity of labor to intervene in politics on the building process of the authoritarian neoliberal structure through the continuity and transformation in the strike bans. In this context, the role of breaking the power of action, which is an important pillar of the weakening of labor in the post-1980 neoliberal transformation process, in ensuring the continuity of the neoliberal structure and its contribution to authoritarianism has been questioned. Within this framework, it has been concluded that strike bans are an important complement in the neoliberalization process after 1980 and that strike bans directly reproduce authoritarianism by contributing directly to weakening the capacity of labor to intervene in politics. It has also been concluded that the strike bans have evolved into a mechanism that will reproduce authoritarianism by completely breaking down the action power of labor whose class power has been completely broken, corresponding to the different stages of the post-1980 neoliberal transformation.
