Comparison of 5th and 8th grade DKAB textbooks of 1982 and 2022

Humanity has made significant advancements in technology and science throughout history. These advancements have impacted every field, including education. One example of changes in education is the updating of textbooks, as there is an effort to meet the standards of a globalizing world. This has increased the importance of comparative education studies in recent years. In this context, comparative studies are being conducted to improve the textbooks used both in our country and in other countries. Through these studies, the strengths and weaknesses of textbooks are identified, and necessary adjustments are made.Purpose of the research; The aim is to examine the textbooks prepared according to the curriculum implemented between 1982 and 2022 in formal religious education, to follow the course of development, and to reveal changes and transformations. With the adoption of the 1982 Constitution, religious culture and ethics courses became compulsory in formal education institutions in Turkey. The main purpose of our study is to examine the first books prepared in formal education and the textbooks prepared in recent periods. In this context; Answers were sought to questions such as the content of the textbooks of the period when religious courses began to be taught, the reason for preparing different programs, the basic features of the programs, what the teaching strategies and methods in the textbooks were, what the formal, contextual and visual features of the books were, what features the measurement and evaluation sections had. Education has been needed throughout history in order for a person to adapt to social life, to live his life according to certain principles and to contribute to society materially and spiritually. In order to meet this need, various steps have been taken and institutions have been established, and the aim is to transfer the determined qualifications to future generations and to provide them with these qualifications. With the start of educational activities, education became systematized over time and took its current form. RCMK courses have an important place in the education system. As the RCMK course became a part of the education system in schools, it became necessary to focus on textbooks, and necessary studies were carried out and issues such as the content, structure and quality of the textbooks were investigated. The problem of this research is to examine the 1982 and 2022 books and reveal their similarities and differences. As a result of this research; Significant differences have been identified between the textbooks prepared in the first period when RCMK courses took their place in formal education and the textbooks used today. By observing the changes, it has been observed that the textbooks prepared today are more supportive of student learning.
