Synthesis, characterization and biological properties of (1R,2R) -ethan-1,2-diol thiadiazole derivatives

In this study, new 1,2-diol and thiadiazole derivatives were synthesized and their structures were illuminated using techniques such as FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. In vitro antioxidant activities of synthesized derivatives; radical capture potentials and analysis of the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells on malondialdehyde (MDA) and the amount of antioxidant vitamins were investigated by biochemical methods. Compounds used as a result of experimental studies were found to affect MDA and vitamin E levels in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. L9 coded thiadiazole compound produced oxidative stress and significantly increased MDA level compared to control, while it decreased Vitamin E level. It can be said that L2 and L8 coded compounds have shown antioxidant activity in both antiradical tests and Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. In addition, the derivatives were tested on HT 29 (human colon adenocarcinoma) cell line in vitro conditions and their antitumor properties were investigated. In in vitro studies, it was determined that the compounds coded L4 and L7 prevent the proliferation of cancerous cells, which is statistically significant over HT 29 cells viability compared to the control group. In antimicrobial activity trials, all substances were determined to have a significant effect on the microorganisms used. It can be said that the compounds have shown significant and various biological activities in in vitro conditions.
