Transcription and evalution of Avlonya sharia court record numbered 20 (S.1-50) (H.974/ M.1566-1567)

In the Ottoman Empire, in the smallest administrative units, the court records kept by the judges who act as the legal representatives of the state are called the religious registers. These registers provide information about the region where they are held, especially about social life, economy, administrative, social, cultural and legal practices. As a result of the diversity they have, Şer'iyye registers can provide concrete resources for historical research on almost every subject. This study was carried out on the Avlonia Şer'iyye Registry No. 20, which is a registry. Since the resource used has a very large and dense content, the first 50 leaf part of the notebook has been examined. The aim of the study is to provide information about the social and economic life of Avlonia, one of the important port cities of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkan geography, using the information contained in the No. 20 Sharia Registry. In the study, the transcription of the documents in the Avlonia Şer'iyye Registry No. 20, which was used as the main source, was transcribed from Ottoman Turkish to Latin letters, and short summaries of these documents in today's Turkish are presented together. Then, in line with the findings obtained from the documents, an evaluation was made on the social, economic, family life, administrative organization and order of the region. In addition, before moving on to the main part, information was given about the history, geographical and cultural identity of Avlonia in order to make the study more understandable and to enable the reader to evaluate the information more properly. In addition to basically having a regional appearance, the study also contributes to general issues such as the legal, social, administrative, economic, economic, family structure of the Ottoman Empire. In addition, the study contains valuable findings in terms of examining and evaluating the Ottoman State administration in the Balkan geography where Avlonia is located.
