Abstract (EN)

Although the debates about whether the door of ijtihad is open or closed go back centuries, the issue started to be discussed at the highest level from the late 19th century and continues until today. According to some Islamic scholars, the door of ijtihad is closed, while according to some scholars, the door is open until the end of time. In essence, with some exceptions, the majority of the parties agree that the door of ijtihad is open until the end of time. However, those who claim that ijtihad cannot be performed today have put forward some reservations about the formation of ijtihad conditions. There have been some debates regarding these approaches between those who think this way and those who advocate the continuation of ijtihad. Of course, the scholars who grew up in our country were not indifferent to these discussions and expressed their opinions in favor and against the subject. For this reason, the study is limited to reflecting and evaluating the views of scholars in Turkey regarding whether the door of ijtihad is open or closed, from the early 20th century to the present day.
