Abstract (EN)
The American invasion of Iraq in 2003 had a profound impact on the country's identity by changing its cultural structure, religious beliefs, social norms and values. This study explores the complex dynamics of how the efforts to reshape Iraq in the aftermath of the intervention have affected the formation of an 'Iraqi' identity. The 2003 intervention led to social fragmentation and identity crisis, but also triggered resistance and reconstruction efforts by the people of the region. Ethnic and religious identities are important factors that have long been present and deeply rooted in Iraq. Iraq has a society composed of various ethnic groups and sects. Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, Assyrians, Yezidis and many other ethnic groups live in the country. During and after the occupation, ethnic and religious identities have not been able to achieve social cohesion and conflicts have emerged. Ethnic and religious identities increase the risk of discrimination and injustice in political, economic and social spheres. This leads to social instability, violence and conflict, terrorist attacks, sectarian violence and social divisions. By examining the impact of changes in cultural and political practices and the American presence on religious beliefs and the transformation of social norms and values, this study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the lasting impact of the American occupation on the development of Iraqi identity. The American presence in Iraq has had a lasting impact on the country's identity by reshaping cultural practices, religious beliefs, social norms and values. Despite the social fragmentation and identity crisis that followed, Iraqi society has also shown resilience and resilience to external influences. Efforts to preserve traditional customs, revitalize national pride and reclaim Iraqi identity through cultural movements underscore the ongoing struggle to forge a distinct Iraqi identity after the occupation. As Iraq continues to come to terms with its complex history and heritage, the destruction wrought by the American occupation of the region remains central to the construction of Iraqi identity.
