Abstract (EN)
Objective:We aimed to evaluate the medical and demographic data of cases who applied to Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) outpatient clinic of Celal Bayar University Hospital. In addition, the amount and types of complaints and diagnosis of the patients were demonstrated, and the problems and solution suggestions were discussed.Material and Methods:Eighteen thousands six hundred forty three applications to the ENT outpatient clinic of Celal Bayar University Hospital were detected between 2008-2009. Unfortunately, there was not enough data about 2832 applications, therefore they were excluded. Thus, the study group was 15.811 applications of 6930 cases. The clinical examination charts of these cases were precisely examined. In the study group 6780 charts belonged to cases who applied to ENT outpatient clinic in 2008, on the other hand 150 charts were belonged to cases who applied to ENT outpatient clinic in the previous years.Considering the amount of applications and clinical charts (15.811 and 6930), we decided to select a sample group. The systematic random sample selection method was preferred, because an application list of cases was not arranged in a row. According to this method, the sample group included 1155 outpatient clinical charts. Results:In our sample group, most of the cases were women (%54,6). The distribution of the patients according to age was as follows: %27,7 were ?18 years old, %46,7 were in 19-50 years old, %17,4 were 51-64 years old and %8,2 were ?65 years old. The amount of application was highest in January (%11,3), February (%11,2) and May (%11,4). The most common complaint was hearing impairment (%25,1) and the other common complaints were mouth breathing during sleep (%15,1) and snoring (%14,2). The most common diagnosis were acute rhinosinusitis (%9,4), laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (%9,2) and ear canal impact (%8,4). When the health services in ENT department of Celal Bayar University compared with the health services of different university hospitals, similar working conditions and workloads were detected. Conclusion:It is determined that patients applied to ENT outpatient clinic of Celal Bayar University Hospital directly without being evaluated in the primary and secondary care units. Most of these patients could be treated in the former medical centers. In addition, it is found out that paper-based traditional recording systems are insufficient in finding patients medical data and providing data for scientific studies
