Comedy and woman in Turkish cinema between the years 2010-2015

When looking at the history of comedy movies in Turkish Cinema, it is often seen that men are the ones who are representatives of comic characters. Based on this proposition, the status of female representations in Turkish Cinema has been analyzed. The aim of this research is to reveal the roles assigned to women representations, the concepts they are associated with, the place of women in the context of gender, the role distribution of male and female representations, the change they have experienced in the context of sociological concepts (class, lifestyle, role and status) and their reactions to socialization. For the period of 2010-2015 one movie is selected for each year. Selected movies were selected based on the consideration whether selected movie was the most viewed one in the comedy genre, whether female director directed the movie and the overall dominance of that movie in the comedy genre. In this direction, six movies between 2010-2015 were analyzed, using Arthur Asa Berger's sociological analysis method: (Off Karadeniz-2010, Eyvah Eyvah 2-2011, Sen Kimsin?-2012, Hükümet Kadın 2-2013, Gülcemal-2014, Kocan Kadar Konuş-2015). Out of Berger's 16 different concepts, six most relevant concepts for the content of selected movies are taken for analysis (class, lifestyle, role, gender, socialization and status). After examination of female representations in Turkish comedy movies in the period of 2010-2015 according to Berger's six concepts, it was concluded that female representatives were equal with male representatives in terms of comedy and were more visible when compared to the past.
