Financial effects of the 2022 Russia-Ukraine War: The example of Türkiye

Wars have many economic and financial effects. When the wars in history are examined, it is possible to see these effects. The war between Russia and Ukraine has impacted in an economic and financial. It has started on February 24, 2022 with the aim of demilitarizing Ukraine from Nazism. Economic and political sanctions have imposed on Russia. In addition to the negative economic and financial effects that started with the COVID-19 epidemic, after the war between the two countries, a hyperinflation threat has created on the economies of all countries of the world. The war has took longer than expected. Since Russia is the world's third largest oil producer among fossil fuel producers, it has had negative consequences for the EU and all other countries. Russia and Ukraine are among the world's largest grain producers and exporters. For this reason, the war not only increased energy prices but also has prevented the grain supply. Rising grain prices have increased their effects on inflation. The war between Russia and Ukraine has had economic and financial effects as well as the effects of wars throughout history. In this study it is aimed to present suggestions for the economic and financial effects of wars on the countries of the world and for the positive effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022. For this purpose the historical development of the wars affecting the world has included in the study and the effects of the Russia-Ukraine war have investigated on the Türkiye economy. The P/B Ratio, P/E and earnings per share ratios of the companies included in the BIST100 index for the last ten years were analyzed with the comparative analysis method, aiming to contribute to the literature and investors.
