This study, a point source analysis was conducted using an inversion method to determine the source mechanism of the Mw=6.9 earthquake that occurred in the Northern Aegean Sea on May 24, 2014. P-waveforms recorded at teleseismic distances were used during the inversion process. Various point-source models were tested, and the rupture process was best represented by a three-source model. The obtained source parameters indicate a fault plane defined by strike 80°, dip 82°, and rake -177°, located on the North Aegean Trough (NAT), which is part of the western extension of the North Anatolian Fault (NAF) system. The earthquake is characterized by right-lateral strike-slip faulting with a minor normal faulting component, along the western segment of the North Anatolian Fault Zone. Within this model, the calculated seismic moment is 1.77 × 10¹⁹ Nm, corresponding to a moment magnitude of Mw = 6.8. The findings provide significant insights into the behavior of active tectonic structures in the region and offer valuable input for seismic hazard assessments.
