Abstract (EN)

The Ottoman Empire, which lived for more than six hundred years, ruled three continents and left a very rich archive treasure as well as historical and architectural works in the geographies it ruled. One of the types of documents that play an important role in understanding and giving meaning to the Ottoman Empire is undoubtedly the Sharia registers. Ottoman Sharia registers contain various types of documents written by the kadi or kadi regent. These documents contain valuable information in many areas such as military, legal, economic, religious and administrative institutions of the Ottoman Empire. Ayntâb Sharia Registry No. 26, which forms the basis of our thesis, covers the three-year period between 1071-1073 H./1660-1663 A.D. Study, XVII. It has enabled us to obtain information about the political, social, legal, economic and cultural situation of Ayntâb in the 19th century. It is possible to accurately determine the lifestyle, commercial life, socio-cultural and political organization of the Ottoman people thanks to the Sharia records. Sharia registries are the main sources consulted by those who study the political, military, economic and municipal structure of the Ottoman cities and the social and cultural structure of the Ottoman Empire. Our study consists of an introduction and three parts. In order to better understand our study, before the transcription of the documents, information about the origin of the name Ayntâb, its geographical location, landforms and Ayntâb in the Ottoman period is given in the introduction. In the first part; The definition of the judgeship, the institution of the judgeship, the duties of women, the definition of the sharia registers, their importance and content as a historical source are discussed. In the second part; the physical characteristics of the ledger, the content of the ledger, the types of documents sent from the center to the provinces, and Ayntâb's social life (marriage, divorce, alimony, power of attorney, appointment of a guardian), economic life (bazaar, markets, tradesmen groups, animal prices, receivables and debt cases, rental giving, sale of property), legal events (theft, injury, murder) are discussed. In addition, the place names (neighbourhood, township, township, village and hamlet) belonging to Ayntâb mentioned in the registry are mentioned. Some place names mentioned in the notebook are neighborhood (Akyol District, Amu District, Kürtünciyan District, Kayser District, Şehreküstü District, Ehl-i Cefa District, Kızılca Mescid District, Tavîl District), district (Ayntâb District, Kilis District, Telbeşar District, Rumkale District). , village (Akpınar Village, Arablar Village, Bedirkendi Village, Kızılhisar Village, Mızmış Village), hamlet (Panek Village, Kızılca Burc Village), township (Nehrü'l-Cevaz, Burc Village, Revanda Village). In the third section, there are transcriptions and summaries of the registry that is the subject of the study. There are many damaged and faded parts of the register numbered 26, especially on the last pages. Destroyed documents and obscured areas naturally made it difficult to read the documents. In some parts of the documents, the letters are too small to be read, they are intertwined and ink has spilled on them. Despite all this, we do not claim that our study is completely accurate and complete. We tried to read as much as we could. The main purpose of the study is to contribute to the history of the region and the city by evaluating the administrative, economic and socio-cultural life of Ayntâb between 1660 and 1663, based on the data in the registry.
