Peception of 27 may 1960 military coup in Malatya press

The first blow to democracy which built by young and dynamic Republic of Turkey, founded on herigate of Ottoman Empire, was dealt by military coup of military dictatorship in May 27, 1960. This blow which was dealt to Turkish democracy was the indicative of problematical process which the country faced. İn this study, we have had the opportunity to examine the effects of this military coup in Malatya, its reflections before the people, the process that took place before and after the coup, and the approach of the local press and media. Local newspapers and press which was the largest communication network of the people from Malatya as of the period, followed the developments related to the city in this period at every turn and provided information sharing. In this thesis, we have firstly were attentive to examine the historical development process of Malatya in a chronological principle as a whole. Furthermore, in our study, we had opportunity to evaluate the change in political, social, economical, cultural view in Malatya and in the period between 1950's, when Democratic Party began and till May 27 1960, military coup through newspapers. Local newspapers which are main mechanism of local press exhibited diffrent perspectives, evaluations and several attitudes. The 1950-1960 political competition period was occurred between Democratic Party and Republican People's Party. In the publications of Malatya local press, it is possible to see the competiton between these two parties.
