Abstract (EN)

Throughout history, every state has a legal system. The legal system of the state serves to maintain order and ensure peace and functioning within the country. In a state, penalties are imposed on those who disrupt the functioning, disturb the peace of the people, and act against the rules and laws. The Ottoman State also imposed penalties on those who tried to disrupt the state order, acted against the rules, and did not fulfill their duties. One of these penalties was kal'abend. Kal'abend is the name given to the situation of being imprisoned in a castle. A kind of prison sentence, kal'abend is included in the kal'abend registers. The kal'abend registers shed light on the period from a legal point of view with the judgments they contain. In the judgments in the kal'abend register, we get information about the crimes and penalties of the period, why these penalties were given, and the situations and pardons of the guilty people. We also learn about the state-people relations, the legal attitude of the state in this period. It also contains information about the speed of decision-making and implementation, and the way of applying penalties. In addition, we have information on a wide range of topics such as pardons and reasons for granting pardons. We tried to present the information we obtained from 590 judgments in the 32nd kal'abend register that we examined impartially in its pure form. We carefully read and tried to interpret this information appropriately.
