Abstract (EN)
This thesis investigates the formation of imines through the reactions of 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and 4-hydrazinobenzoic acid (PHBA) with various aromatic aldehydes, monitored in real-time (İn-Situ) using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The "background method" was employed to track the reactions in real time. Reactants, namely aldehydes and amines, were separately dissolved in ethanol to prepare solutions at specific concentrations. These solutions were then mixed, and the initial moment of the reaction was defined as the "background" in the FTIR instrument. Subsequently, IR spectra of the reaction medium were recorded at predetermined time intervals. Ethanol was used as the solvent for all reactions. The spectral data obtained were thoroughly analyzed to understand the kinetic behavior and mechanism of imine formation over time. This study demonstrates the potential of FTIR spectroscopy in elucidating reaction kinetics and mechanisms, aiming to contribute significantly to the existing literature in this field.
