Teacher and student opinions about 4006 TUBITAK Science Fair: Example of Giresun province

The purpose of this study determine the opinions of the teachers and students who taking part in the tubitak 4006 science fair. In the study group of this research is used criterion sampling method. In the study group of 61 advisor teachers and 60 executive teachers who working in Giresun province and its districts. In addition, The sample of the study consists of 156 students studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades and taking part in science fairs. Survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The research data were collected online with a teacher questionnaire (T1-4006ÖGAF) and a student questionnaire (T2-4006ÖGAF) developed by the researcher. Descriptive analysis method was used in the statistical analysis of the study. The data were analyzed by extracting frequency and percentage tables. Teachers and students took part in the science fair voluntarily. Teachers see the science fair as helping them find a need-based project topic. Students see the science fair as a place where they learn new information and experience the feeling of productivity. Teachers expressed positive opinions about the science fair, about school promotion, establishment of institutional culture, and realization of permanent learning. Teachers expressed negative opinions about the science fair, about the late approval of the projects, the inability of the parents to be involved in the process, and the inexperience of the students.Students expressed positive opinion about science fairs in terms of increasing the participation in the course and improving their problem-solving skills. Students expressed ¬negative opinion about science fairs in terms of preparing projects according to the lower steps and being inadequate in preparing materials.
