Investigation of the between non-word repetititon skills and receptive language skills of children aged 4–6 with speech sound disorder

In this study, the Non-Word Repetition (NWR) performance of children with Speech Sound Disorder (SSD) aged 4-6 years and its relationship with receptive language skills and non-verbal intelligence were examined, and it was attempted to determine whether there was a significant difference in NWR performance according to the severity of SSD and age variables. 62 (n=62) children with SSD were administered the Pronunciation Subtest, Raven Colored Progressive Matrices Test, Turkish Early Language Development Test and Turkish Non-Word Repetition Test. The research was conducted with the survey research one of the quantitative research methods and SPSS-25 package program was used to analyze the collected data. When the findings obtained from the study were examined, it was found that NWR performance was related to nonverbal intelligence in children with SSD aged 4-6 years, NWR scores showed a significant difference with the severity of SSD; there was no relationship between NWR scores and receptive language skilss and NWR scores did not differ statistically significantly depending on age. It was concluded that the non-verbal cognitive abilities of children with SSD should also be included in the assessment procedures and the severity of SSD is a factor that should be taken into consideration by speech-language pathologists in order to create a tailored therapy program.
