Abstract (EN)

The aim of this stady was to examine the problem posing skills of middle school 5th grade students in the context of creativity in patterns and the effect of these skills on problem solving. Mixed method was used in the study. The research group of the study consisted of 25 students, 2 of whom were in pilot study, studying in the 5th grade of a secondary school in the province of Ağrı.The Problem Posing Scale (PPS), which included 4 semi-structured problem situations, was applied to the students in order to achieve the purpose of the research. Students were asked to pose as many problems as they could about patterns in connection with their problem situations. 12 of the problems posed by the students were selected and the Problem Solving Scale (PSS) was prepared and applied to the research group. In order to examine the problem posing and problem solving process in detail, 14 students were interviewed. The creativity scores of the students were calculated by examining the PPS, and the achievement scores of the students were calculated by examining the PSS. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effect of students' problem posing skills on their problem solving skills in terms of fluency, flexibility and originality in patterns. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that the components of fluency, flexibility and originality about patterns did not predict problem solving skills. However, in the context of creativity, it has been determined that there was a significant relationship between the components of fluency, flexibility and originality and problem solving skills.
