Presentation of 6-7 October events in printed media

This study aims to investigate reflections of 6-7 October Events in Turkish printed media and news discourse about events. In this study, news texts of Sabah, Hurriyet, Ozgur Gundem newspapers on 6-7th October events between 6-10th October 2014 were investigated. Reference point of this study is news discourses that investigated newspapers formed on 6-7th October Events. Study elaborates how 6-7th October Events are reported as news. In study, while analysing news texts, Critical Discourse Analysis methodology of Teun Von Dijk is used. Some findings are obtained as a result of Critical Discourse Analysis. According to these findings,it is obvious that each investigated newspaper interpret 6-7 October Events in line with their ideologies. Investigated newspapers have brought different interpretations and realities by assigning a meaning negatively and positively in line with their ideologies. It is obviously seen that newspapers present the news within particular frame to dominate the events and this frame is provided by factors such as used headlines in news text, word choices, sources, rhetoric and visual materials.
