Evaluating The Using Of 6-7th Grade Social Studies Workbooks Accordıng To Wievs Both Of The Social Studies Teachers? And The 6-7th Grade Students? (Rize Sample)The social studies education program is based on the constructivist approach, which supports the idea of the importance of the individual learning methods and interaction with the environment. According to this approach the education and training environment must be organized to support the active participation of students. With the idea of providing opportunities for students to participate in education and training process actively appropriate teaching methods and techniques and tools are used in teaching. Student workbooks have been used as a requirement of this approach.The purpose of this study is evaluating the using of social studies workbooks in the process of learning and teaching by determining the ideas of both the social studies teachers? and the 6-7th grade students? about workbooks. In this way it is aimed to find out the difficulties that are faced during the usage of and the planned situation of programme related with workbooks. This study was carried out with the schools in Rize and its towns in 2010-2011 academic years. Quantitative dimension of the study which is driven by mixed method it is studied with social studies teachers (N=80), and 6th (N=650) and 7th (N=650) grade students. The qualitative dimension of the research is studied with 10(ten) social studies teachers. Data is obtained through interview forms and questionnaires, to analyze the quantitative data the descriptive statistics ise used to analyze the qualitative data content analysis is used. According to the research results it is determined that there are some problems about using of the student workbooks during the social studies lessons and they are not used as what the programme approves.Key Words: Social Studies, Social Studies Education, Workbooks, Social Studies Workbooks, Social Studies Education in Turkey.
