6th grade Social Sciences course an investigation of the problems faced by social sciences teachers in the learning area of people, places and environments

Today, Social Studies is a learning field that focuses on every aspect of the individual and society. In this respect, all kinds of technological developments, cultural differences, variables in geographical conditions, etc. demonstrated by societies. It also changes the form of social studies education. The problems encountered by social studies teachers in their lessons and training within the scope of the learning area of people, places and environments in secondary schools constitute the subject of this study. In this study, it was aimed to identify the problems experienced by social studies teachers with different professional experience in the field of 6th grade people, places and environments learning and the solutions they implemented. Within the scope of this purpose, first of all, the definition of social sciences was made in the study. Afterwards, the aims of the social studies course, the curriculum, the different approaches used in the social studies course, and the learning areas were examined in detail. In the study, social studies teachers working in Afyon were interviewed using the interview method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The data obtained from the research were analyzed by dividing into codes and themes. It has been observed that the factors that affect the teaching of social studies, people, places and environments, the learning area, are linearly affected by the low budget allocated for the course, the frequency of use of in-course materials, frequently changing course hours and curriculum.
