The evaluation of usage status of the 6th grade social studies teacher's guide books in terms of teachers' opinions (Ordu province sample)

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the Social Studies Teachers' Guide Book for 6th grade students using in the teaching-learning process by determining the teachers' thoughts and opinions. In this way, the difficulties encountered in the use of guide books has been discovered and the differences between planned aims of guide books and the usages in practice has been revealed and compared . This research was designed as mixed –method using both guantitative and gualitative methods. 125 Social Studies Teachers who work in public secondary school in Ordu province were attended for guantitative dimension of study, and 40 Social Studies teachers for the gualitative dimension. The investigation related to the subject with the help of those teachers has been done by using the information retrieval techniques and survey model, which are called the descriptive techniques. The analysis of the data were done by using SPSS 15.0 software and the non-parametric Tests Kruskal-Wallis Test and Mann-Whitney U Test, frequencies and percentages have been used. In the study, the level of significance has been taken asp≤0.05. According to the results of the survey; sub-dimensions of the opinions, design and practicability of the events at social studies teacher's guide book", "use of methods and techniques at the social studies teacher's guide book" and " the clarity of expressions and visual layout at the social studies teacher's guide" do not differ with respect to gender, professional seniority, department of graduation and educational background. It has been identified that 6th grade Social Studies teacher guide books have size - related deficiencies in each sub-dimension. The data which was obtained through the interview form has been thematically divided into two groups in terms of the content and the application. Teacher's opinions on the guide books have been examined within this context. Solutions to the problems faced by teachers were given in bulleted items. The findings present various of problems faced by teachers in using these teachers' guide book.
