Trannscription and evaluation of the Muslim Population Book of Karînâbâd districk number 6640

Every political authority may want to determine the population size and characteristics of the people in order to organize the economic, administrative and military structure of the country they govern or to better carry out the existing order. Therefore, they may conduct censuses. Since the classical period, Ottoman administrators have also conducted population and property censuses to see the current situation of their subjects, to meet the economic and military needs of the state, to determine the economic level of the people and the number of people of military age. The censuses conducted in the form of census records in the classical period began to change as a result of military and economic developments in the world and in the Ottoman Empire in the following years and began to take on a new form in the 19th century. The first census that can be considered modern since the foundation of the Ottoman Empire was conducted in 1830-1831. The population books that emerged as a result of the censuses are important sources for better understanding the history of the Ottoman Empire and determining its social, economic and cultural structure. Population books provide rich information about the demographic, economic and cultural structure of the period they are related to. In addition, thanks to the aforementioned books, it provides information on many subjects such as the administrative structure of the region, the names of the settlements, the names, nicknames, ages and occupations of the individuals and their distinguishing physical characteristics, dates of birth and death, the number of the male population and their military service status, taxpayers, and population movements. The Muslim population book of Karınabad district numbered 6640, which contains this information, contains statistics for the year 1835. In order to provide a better understanding by transcribing the records related to the Muslim population in this book, the contents were arranged and it was aimed to shed light on the history of the region and to serve as a source for studies to be carried out on the population books.
