The relationship between 8th grade students' adoption levels of Ataturk's principles and revolutions and their families' socioeconomic levels

The main aim of the research is to uncover the relationship between 8th-grade students' level of adoption of Atatürk's principles and reforms and their families' socioeconomic status. This study, which employs a relational scanning method, focuses on 8th-grade students continuing their education in Turkey during the 2023-2024 academic year. The sample consists of 617 8th-grade students studying in the city center of Artvin and its 8 districts. To determine the relationship between the students' level of adoption of Atatürk's principles and reforms and their families' socioeconomic status, the "Atatürk Principles Attitude Questionnaire" developed by Yılmaz and Kurnaz (2005) and the "Four-Factor Social Status Index" developed by August B. Hollingshead (1975) and recognized in international literature were used. The analysis of the data collected from 617 students in the study was carried out using IBM SPSS 21.00 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Based on the objectives of the research, frequency (f) and percentage (%) values were calculated from the obtained data. Additionally, a Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test was conducted to check whether the data met the assumption of normal distribution for the subproblems of the research. The results of the normality test indicated that the data did not follow a normal distribution (p<.05). Therefore, for comparisons involving two independent variables, the Mann-Whitney U nonparametric test was used, and for comparisons involving three or more independent variables, the Kruskal-Wallis H nonparametric test was utilized. Based on the findings of the research, the results can be summarized as follows: It was concluded that the level of adoption of Atatürk's principles and reforms is statistically significantly higher among 8th-grade students from families with a high socioeconomic status. The study found a positive and significant relationship between parents' education level, parents' professions, and the family's monthly income with the students' level of embracing Atatürk's principles and reforms. However, contrary to expectations, the calculated effect size of this relationship is low. One of the striking findings of the research is that female students have a higher level of acceptance of Atatürk's principles and reforms compared to male students.
