Abstract (EN)
It is seen that the French fought against the Ottomans with their crusaders in the 14th century when the Ottomans began to spread to the European territory. The French forces under the command of French Duke of Burgundy Jan Nevers fought a battle against the Ottoman forces along with the crusader army in the Niğbolu war in 1396. The first friendship relations between the Ottoman Empire and France started in the period of Suleiman the Magnificent. Ottoman-French relations in the 16th century were shaped by a superior political diplomacy of the Ottoman state.Ottoman-French relations became more complicated during the Ottoman Empire‛s siege of Crete in the 17th century and the 25-year conquest period and the long war years that began after the 2nd Vienna siege. France, on the one hand, was trying to maintain their relations with the Ottoman Empire on the basis of friendship and didn‛t want to lose their commercial privileges in the Mediterranean; on the other hand France was secretly helping the Venetians who did not want to leave the island of Crete. The French do not want to lose this superiority but there have emerged rivals as England and Dutch. The French rivals in the Mediterranean were Dutch and British merchants, while in Europe they were Habsburgs. For this reason, the French always supported the Ottoman Empire to declare war against the Habsburgs all along the line. While the Ottoman-Habburg wars were continuing, the French wanted the war to extend according to their interests in Europe, while their rivals Dutch and Britain were trying to reach a peace agreement as soon as possible. This ledger H.1150-1158/M.1738-1746 includes provisions within the framework of agreements in relation to the problems that arise especially in commercial, political and diplomatic issues between the Ottoman Empire and France in 1742.
