Abstract (EN)

The court documents of Ottoman are the the clearest sources that give us information about the social, cultural and economic life of the people living in the geographies ruled by the Ottoman Empire. In these records, the local characteristics of the regions such as the relevant province, town or village come to the fore, since there are sources kept in place by the judge or the relevant officials. Likewise they are invaluable documents for today's historians, as they contain first-hand information about the region where they were registered. This importance is valid not only for today's Turkey, but also for the entire geography within Ottoman borders. It has been mentioned that the administrative, social and economic structure of Adana in the registry numbered 91, covering the years 1286-1289 Hijri / 1869-1873 Gregorian. In this study the documents were transcribed and by preparing summaries of the records the administrative, social and economic situation of the Adana province was tried to be revealed on the specified dates. The cases that they are generally included in the registry we examined are as follows: Issues of debt and inheritance, inheritance cases based on inheritance records, marriage, divorce, family disputes, sale of immovable property and leasing, disputes arising from family sharing, injury, assault and extortion, debt and claim litigations. The Court of Sharia registers are the indispensable main sources of domestic and foreign researchers who want to do research on the administrative, social, cultural and economic life of the Ottoman Empire. It has been tried to contribute to the literature with the Adana Court Registers (Hijri 1286-1289 / Gregorian 1869-1873) which we have transcribed.
