This thesis aims to study and produce a critical edition of the commentary on the Forty Hadith of an-Nawawi by Sheikh Ahmad ibn Turki ibn Ahmad al-Manshilili (d. 979 AH/1571CE), one of the scholars of the tenth century AH. In his commentary, al- Manshilili combined several important commentaries on the Forty Hadith and quoted the opinions of scholars such as al-Tufi, al-Fakhahani, and al-Dalaji, among others. He commented on these opinions, preferred the most sound ones, and those closer to the consensus of scholars. He also commented on linguistic issues and clarified many obscure terms. The importance of this commentary stems from the value of the book being commented upon, which is Imam an-Nawawi's Forty Hadith. This work has been widely circulated and has been the subject of more than a hundred commentaries over the centuries. For this critical edition, two handwritten manuscripts were used. The descriptive historical method was followed in the study when researching the biography of Imam al-Manshilili and presenting his personal and scholarly life. In the critical edition section, the collation method was adopted, which is based on comparing the handwritten manuscripts and noting the differences between them in the footnotes, along with verifying the quotations and texts found in the main text and attributing them to their sources. The study concluded that Sheikh al-Manshilili carefully presented the opinions of scholars without alteration, except in rare cases, and attributed the statements to their sources. He frequently quoted from other commentaries on the Forty Hadith. The author's sources for his commentary were diverse, including the major books of hadith, especially the Sahihs and their commentaries, and other books. The commentator also quoted from sources other than the Sahihs and judged their chains of transmission as sound, good, or weak. He paid particular attention to linguistic issues, poetic examples, and the unknown hadiths. He also touched on doctrinal issues, especially those that were controversial, such as the issue of Taqiyya among the Shias and the issue of truth and metaphor among the Mu'tazilas. He was interested in legal issues and frequently quoted from Maliki imams such as al-Dawudi, al-Abhari, and Ibn Shaban. His style in presenting the issues was easy, clear, and free from complexity and digression, resulting in a concise and useful work in its field, as intended by its author.
