Abstract (EN)

Master alloys are commonly used to achieve grain refinement in aluminum alloys. The most commonly used grain refiners are titanium, boron, or master alloys of titanium and boron. The grain refiners used differ from the master alloys added to the melt for alloying purposes only and serve the purpose of controlling the microstructure. In industry, Al-5Ti-1B is widely used for grain refinement and Al-15Sr is used to control modification. In recent years, alternatively, quaternary master alloys containing Al-Ti-Sr-B have been developed to achieve modification and grain refinement in one step. In this study, Al-10Sr-1Ti-0.2B quaternary master alloy was used to examine its efficiency and performance on A356 alloy. In the first stage of this study, Al-5Ti-1B / Al-15Sr master alloys were added to the A356 alloy in different proportions in order to compare it with the Al-10Sr-1Ti-0.2B quaternary master alloy, which can be evaluated as an alternative in the literature and industrial applications. effects on the properties were studied. In the second stage, the contact times of the two master alloys with the liquid melt were changed and their microstructure, macrostructure and mechanical properties were investigated. When the two master alloys are compared and evaluated in terms of all material properties and cost, it is seen that the use of Al-5Ti-1B and Al-15Sr, which are widely used in the industry, is still more appropriate. However, it has been revealed that Al-10Sr-1Ti-0.2B master alloy can also be used as an alternative in terms of performance.
