Abstract (EN)
The origin of the Aarhus Convention can be traced back to the work carried out since the late 1980s. However, the contract was signed on 25 June 1998 in Aarhus, Denmark in line with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and took its place on 30 October 2001. The Aarhus convention links the environment and human rights. In addition, issues such as access to information on environmental issues, public participation in decisions to be made on environmental issues and application to the judiciary constitute the content of the contract. These three pillars are essential to promoting good environmental governance that is transparent, inclusive and accountable. However, Turkey has not signed the contract that entered into force in 2001. In this thesis, the basic assumptions of public participation in environmental governance will be based on from the perspective of the Aarhus convention in the context of Turkey as a developing country.
