Abstract (EN)

The phytoplankton composition of the lakes Abant and Gölköy were studied monthlyduring two years (June 2003-June 2005) at 3 littoral and 2 open sites. A total of 285and 271 net phytoplankton taxa were identified from Lake Abant and Lake Gölköy,respectively. Bacillariophycea is the most abundant class in Lake Abant with ca. 43% and in Lake Gölköy with ca. 43.9 %. Chlorophyceae is the second dominant classin both lakes with similar ratio. Some species of diatoms (Asterionella formosaHassall, Cymbella cistula Kirchner, Fragilaria biceps (Kützing) Lange-Bertalot, F.dilata (Brebisson) Lange-Bertalot, and Navicula radiosa Kützing) showed frequentoccurrence in almost every month for each station in both lakes. Some other thandiatom species such as Trachelomonas volvocina Ehrenberg, Cryptomonas ovataEhrenberg, and Ceratium hirundinella (Müller) Dujardin were commonly distributedin both lakes during study period. In addition, Oscillatoria limosa, Dinobryondivergens, Peridinium willei, and Pandorina morum were frequently found in LakeGölköy than in Abant. Environmental variables were changed in both lakes duringstudy period. According to Carlson and OECD Trophic State for Secchi depth,chlorophyll-a and phosphate concentrations, Lake Abant was showed mesotrophiccharacteristic and dimictic, while Lake Gölköy had meso-to-eutrophic conditions andmonomictic characteristic.Key words: Phytoplankton, Lake Abant and Gölköy, Algal Taxonomy
