Investigation of self-esteem, social appearance anxiety and sexual functions and factors affecting patients undergoing abdominoplasty and mamoplasty operation before surgery and after discharge

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of sociodemographic and surgical characteristics of female patients who underwent abdominoplasty, mammoplasty in their surgical service on their self-esteem, social appearance concerns, and sexual functions before and 1 month after discharge. In the study, 'Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale', 'Social Appearance Anxiety Scale', 'Female Sexual Function Scale' and 'Introductory Information Form for Patients Planned for Mammoplasty and Abdominoplasty Operations' prepared by the researcher. The sample of the study consists of 70 patients who are planned to undergo mammoplasty, abdominoplasty, have married or sexual partners, and volunteer to participate in the study. As a result of the study, found statistically significant that the female sexual function index value of the abdominoplasty group was lower than those who had breast reduction and higher than those who had breast reconstruction after mastectomy (p=0.001; p<0.05). The female sexual function index value of the breast reconstruction group after mastectomy was found to be lower than the breast enlargement, breast reduction and breast lift groups (p=0.001; p<0.05). A statistically significant relationship between the first measure of self-esteem and the first measure of the female sexual function index and the last measurement of the female sexual function index, a positive and moderately significant relationship between the first measure of self-esteem and the last measure of self-esteem, social appearance anxiety with the last measure. There is a positive and highly significant relationship between the last measure of self-esteem, and a negative and weakly significant relationship between the last measure of social appearance anxiety and the last measure of the female sexual function index.
