Abstract (EN)

This thesis, which contains an introduction and three main parts, aims to analyse ?Translation of Arabic Proverbs? of Qudsi who lived on the second half of the 17th century and the first quarter of the 18th century. It also aims to provide the transılteratıon of the original text which is in Arabic. At the introduction of the thesis the meaning of ?mesel? (proverb) is explained both as a word and as a term. Then the differences and similarities between ?mesel? and ?hikmet? (gnome) and ?mesel? and ?deyim? (idiom) are stated. ?mesels? (proverbs) are classified according to their structures, places of origin and time of origin in general. Some other books written about ?mesel? are mentioned as well. The first part of the thesis is about the life and writings of Qudsi. In the 2nd part, the information about a couple of writings which explain Arabic and Persian ?mesels? (proverbs) in classical Turkish literature is provided first and then Qudsi?s book is analysed. The ?mesels? in the book are classified according to their time, structure and theme. After these, the resources that are used and the method of translation that is applied by the translator is explained. The third part of the study contains the Ottoman text which was written in Latin. This text was taken from Suleymaniye Library Nuruosmaniyenumber (4928/1).
