Biography of Abdülmelik b. Habib and his contribution to prophet?s tradition (hadith)

The purpose of this study is that to investigate biography of Abdülmelik b. Habib who was a famous scholar in Andalusia and also his contribution to the study of prophet?s tradition. There are many crucial sources available in Andalusia for History and Culture of Islam. However, there has not been sufficient study carried out in this field neither in Turkey nor in other Islamic countries, therefore, richness of science and culture of Andalusia has not been promoted adequately. The main reasons of picking Abdülmelik b. Habib as a focus area in this study are that he was one of the scholars who were educated in Andalusia and also he had a crucial role in his field of study.This paper firstly investigates the science and political situation in general during the period of ibn Habib?s life, then it is followed by an investigation which consists of his life starting from his birth, environment of science during the period of his education, his educators, his students, Islamic canon law (Fiqh) from his point of view and also his academic Works. It is tried to introduce the view of his prophet tradition of İbn Habib who is famous for personality of Fakih. It has been referred about his personality from events which has been rumoured about himself. That Abdülmelik bin Habib has manysided scholarly personality and many Works in very areas, has attracted attention of Ulema in that time and gained scholarly praise of them.Rical and Tabakat have been used as sources to investigate biography of Abdülmelik b. Habib?in this paper, scientific and political sources have also been used. Studies based on his family and his private life don?t carry satisfaction information. Although he has a lot of works in various areas, only nine of them has reached today. The book called Edebü?n-nisâ of them is his important work. That he is the first person who carries science of prophet tradition to Andalusia. Also, that he is the first historian of Andalusia is important. Indeed, even though his work in this area is exposed to criticism. It has given important information about history of AndalusiaAs consequence of the researches conducted, it has been seen that İbn Habib was important personage as he was former representatives of Maliki Sect and the role of coming Maliki doctrine to Andalusia. It has been noticed that he had inspired by Maliki sect that his poetship and he was advance courier of science of history.
