Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted for the purpose of examining the safety precautions for domestic accidents by mothers with children aged 1-6 years to apply for child emergency services. The study was conducted with 390 mothers with children between the ages of 1 and 6 who presented to the pediatric emergency service between September 2018 and February 2019. The data of the study were collected by using an information form and the "Scale for identification of safety measures for preventing home accidents in 0-6 years age group children" survey with face-to-face interview technique. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal Wallis test were used to evaluate the data. It was found that the mean age of the mothers in the research was 31.73±5.88 (years). 40.5% of them were university graduates, and 53.3% did not work. It was determined that the mean age of the children in the study was 3.61±1.59 (years) and 50.5% of these children were male. It was determined that 46.9% of the children participating in the study experienced a home accident at least once, 49.2% had a home accident due to carelessness, and 38.3% of the children had the accident near their mothers. It was found that 66.8% of the home accidents occurred in the living room and the children were exposed to home accidents most frequently as falling / slipping (51.3%) and burning / scalding (23.5%). The mean score of the mothers' scale for identification of safety measures for home accidents was 178.39±14.99. In the study, it was observed that the mean scale scores of the mothers under the age of 35, university graduate, employed, with a good income, with a nuclear family type, living in the province, and with only one child were higher, and there was a significant difference between the scale scores and the groups (p <0.05). As a result, although the scale mean scores of the mothers were high, the rate of home accidents was still not at the desired level.
