Abstract (EN)
Differences in operative time and postoperative symptoms such as bleeding, edema, and hematoma between open and closed sinus augmentation procedures may affect long-term peri-implant tissue health and quality of life. This study assessed oral and general health-related quality of life in patients who underwent closed or open sinus augmentation using the OHIP-14 and SF-36 questionnaires. Forty patients aged 25–83 years were included (20 closed, 20 open). Demographic variables showed no significant differences regarding age, sex, smoking, or systemic disease. Implant-related parameters, including implant number, diameter, and functional loading duration, did not differ significantly, while implant length was greater in the closed sinus group (p < 0.05). Peri-implant clinical parameters (mPI, PİCD, PİDÇ, mGI, mSKI) also showed no significant differences between groups. The open sinus group had significantly higher OHIP-14 total scores and higher "physical pain" and "physical disability" subdomain scores (p < 0.05). SF-36 results showed higher "emotional role difficulty" scores in the open group as well (p < 0.05). Correlation analysis revealed positive associations between OHIP-14 scores and both mSKI and mGI, while SF-36 overall scores were negatively correlated with OHIP-14 totals. Several positive correlations were also observed among periodontal indices, including relationships between mPI and PİDÇ, PİCD, and mSKI, as well as between PİDÇ and PİCD, PİDÇ and mSKI, and PİCD and mSKI. These findings indicate that implant treatments should be evaluated not only through biological criteria but also by incorporating patient-centered quality-of-life measures reflecting psychosocial well-being, supporting more individualized treatment planning.
