Psychoanalytic analysis of female characters in Adalet Ağaoğlu's novels

One of the important women writers of Turkish literature, Adalet Ağaoğlu has written many works in the genres of novels, stories, plays, essays, diaries and letters. In the academic studies on Ağaoğlu's works, it was seen that a comprehensive psychoanalytic analysis was missing and this study aimed to complete this missing aspect. The suitability of the author's novels to be analyzed in terms of psychoanalytic theory and the fact that the majority of the characters of the author's novels are women are the important factors that determine the title of the study. In addition, Adalet Ağaoğlu's frequent mention of women's issues in her works is another reason why only female characters are examined in this study. The aim of the thesis, titled "Psychoanalytic Analysis of Female Characters in Adalet Ağaoğlu's Novels", is to illuminate the spirit worlds and subconscious minds of female characters in Adalet Ağaoğlu's novels. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of three parts, topics such as the development of psychoanalytic theory, the relationship between literature and psychology, the place of women in psychoanalytic theory are included. In the second part, after giving information about the life and works of Adalet Ağaoğlu, summaries of the author's novels are given. In the third chapter, which constitutes the main body of the study, the female characters in the author's novels are examined in terms of psychoanalytic theory with concepts such as childhood, dreams, electra complex, archetypes, conflicts, sexuality, melancholy, death. In the conclusion part, the study was completed by making a general evaluation of the findings obtained.
