Spatial and structural analysis of urban open green spaces of Çukurova district of Adana province

As long as people have existed, they have used natural areas and resources to establish their settlements, and have created settlements according to the environmental, economic, social and cultural values of their environment. With the rapid population growth in recent years, cities have begun to develop on important natural or near-natural areas. This development has brought about changes in natural areas and therefore in the ecological cycle. The most important areas showing change are agricultural areas and open areas. These reasons have led people to seek sustainable environment and nature. In this study, Çukurova was chosen as the study area. The study area one of the most important districts of Adana which is Turkey's agricultural and industrial city. The city's strategic location around the Seyhan Dam Lake, having important agricultural areas, and creating a cultural gateway to the world with the university are effective in the city's preference as a residential area. In the study, the spatial and structural structures of the urban open green areas of Çukurova district were analyzed. With the study, the effects of urban development on the natural areas and urban open green areas in and around the city have been revealed numerically and visually. The distribution of open green spaces in the city and the rate of open green space per capita among people living in the city have been revealed. In the study, the city's zoning plans and satellite images were used as auxiliary materials. Obtaining the numerical data used in the study method and creating visual maps were made with Arc Map 10.7 geographic information system software. The aim of the study is to see the size of urban open spaces and their distribution within the city and to develop the connections between open spaces. Suggestions were presented to control the development of the city in the coming years, to protect and develop open green spaces. The data obtained as a result of the study will be useful in determining the open green space adequacy of Çukurova urban area and taking measures for deficiencies.
