Abstract (EN)
The aim of thesis is to determine and compare the presence of Immunoglobulin G against Adenovirus-36 and the leptin levels in the obesity patients (BMI≥30) and in the healthy weight group (18.5≥BMI≥25). For this purpose, the blood samples separated into their sera and the presence of antibodies and the leptin concentration level were evaluated by ELISA. The results show that 35.3% of the patients (n:85) were found positive for Adenovirus-36 IgG. A significant difference was found between the patient and control groups(p<0.05). The leptin levels of the patient group (3.02ng/dl±0.22) were lower than the control group (3.87ng/dl±0.28)(p<0.01). Among the patient group, leptin levels of seropositive patients for AdV-36 (4.86ng/dl±0.43) were found to be higher than those of negative (2.01ng/dl±0.12)(p<0.001). A statistically significant difference was found between the leptin levels of AdV-36 seronegative patients (2.01ng/dl±0.12) and control (3.39±0.26) groups (p<0.001). Finally; in the patient group, BMIs of individuals with positive AdV-36 IgG (35.15±10.81) were lower than those of negative individuals (41.52±9.30)(p<0.01). AdV36 seropositivity was higher in obese than in healthy-weight individuals. This highlights the relationship between obesity and AdV36. The fact that the leptin concentration level is lower in obese individuals than in healthy weight groups indicates that leptin is an important hormone in the regulation of appetite. Also, the leptin concentration level was higher in individuals with positive AdV-36 IgG in the obese group than in those with negative IgG levels in the same group supports the idea that there is a positive relationship between AdV-36 and leptin concentration.
