Simile /tesbih in the Diwan of Adlî(between 1st -52nd ghazals)

The princes and sultans, who created a world of poetry and scholarship around them, helped to bring many Arabic and Persian works into Turkish culture and played a major role in the development of the Turkish language and in raising the cultural level of the newly established empire. At the same time, the Ottoman sultans were not indifferent to writing poetry and organizing diwans. This interest led to the tradition of sultan poets. The first sultan poet to have a divan, Bâyezîd II, the son of Mehmed the Conqueror and the father of Yavuz Sultan Selim, was also a sultan who wrote poems under the pseudonym Adlî and had a divan, in addition to being known as "wali, gâzî, scholar, calligrapher, musehhib". The literary identity of Adlî, one of the sultan poets of the Dîvân poetry tradition, continues to attract the attention of researchers. In this thesis, it is aimed to take a closer look at Adlî's Divan, which is the only work of Adlî, who produced a work in Turkish at a time when Old Anatolian Turkish completed its period and the Classical Ottoman Turkish period gradually began. For this purpose, firstly, information about his life and works is listed, and then an in-language translation of the first 52 ghazals in his Divan is prepared. Finally, the types of simile/tesbih and "istiare", which is a type of metaphor used by Adlî were identified. Thus, with this small-scale monographic study, it has been seen that Adlî knew the tradition of classical Turkish poetry and verse technique well, that he preferred to write ghazals rather than qasida, that he used a total of 232 similes and 197 "istiare" in these poems, that he utilized similes more frequently in his literary discourse, and that he tried to preserve the Turkish phrase and sentence structure.
