Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of problematic internet use and social appearence anxiety on smartphone addiction of adolescents. Method: The study includes 700 adolescents. Descriptive statistical methods including number, percentage and average tests were used to evaluate data. Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between problematic internet use and smartphone addiction with social appearance anxiety and smartphone addiction. The effect of problematic internet use and social appearance anxiety on smartphone addiction was evaluated by regression analysis. Results: The mean.age of adolescents included in this study was 15.67 ± 1.02 and 56.9% (n=398) are male. It was found that there was a relationship between adolescents' first subscale mean scores of problematic internet use scale and smartphone addiction (r =0.651, p<0.001). It was found that there was a correlation between the mean scores of second and third subscale of problematic internet use scale and smartphone addiction (r=0.554, p<0.001; r=0.466, p<0.001). However, a moderate significant positive relationship was observed between social appearence anxiety and smartphone addiction (r=0.454, p<0.001). As a result of our modeling; All subscale of problematic internet use explain 47% of smartphone addiction (R2 = 0.465), while social appearance anxiety explains 21% (R2=0.207) and all variables of this study explain 51% of smartphone addiction (R2=0.510). Conclusion: Problematic internet use and social apperance anxiety affects smartphone addiction. Key Words: Problematic internet use, social apperance anxiety, smartphone addiction.
