Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the level of compliance with treatment and the close social support received by patients followed up with a diagnosis of hypertension in primary health care institutions; and to examine the effects of these two variables on hypertension control and disease management. Data obtained from 330 hypertension patients who were registered in Adıyaman Central Family Health Center No. 1 and who applied to the outpatient clinic between 25.02.2025 and 01.04.2025 and met the inclusion criteria were examined by applying the face-to-face Sosyodemografic Data Survey Form, Turkish Modified Morisky Scale and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. 41.8% of the participants are between the ages of 45-54, 22.1% are 65 years and older, 56.1% are female, 43.9% are male, 81.8% are married, 18.2% are single, 30.9% are secondary school graduates, 22.1% are primary school graduates, 46.1% are housewives, 22.7% are retired, and 82.7% are in the middleincome group. Married individuals have significantly higher family support scores than single individuals. Public employees and housewives have higher levels of special human support than private sector employees. High-income individuals have significantly higher social support scores than low and middle-income individuals. Individuals living with their families have higher social support scores than those living alone. A positive and significant relationship was found between social support and motivation. It was found that there was a significant difference between the motivation levels of the participants according to the number of antihypertensive medications they used. In our study, the fact that married individuals received higher family support scores than single individuals indicates that marriage strengthens the social networks in individuals' lives. The fact that we found a positive correlation between income level and perception of social support suggests that social relationships become more sustainable based on economic resources. It suggests that if one of the family members struggles with a chronic disease such as hypertension, other family members may be more sensitive and supportive of this situation. The fact that individuals who regularly measure their blood pressure have higher social support scores indicates that social support positively affects the individual's health behaviors. The treatment compliance scores of individuals in the middle-income group are higher than those in the low-income group. This suggests that economic stability facilitates treatment compliance. According to the findings obtained in the study, a positive and significant relationship was found between social support and treatment compliance. This result shows that the social support that individuals perceive from their environment can be a motivational factor that increases their compliance with treatment. It shows that individuals receiving services in a professional health environment positively affects their motivation towards the treatment process. As a result; In the management of chronic diseases such as hypertension, not only medical treatment; The individual's social environment, living conditions and psychosocial resources should also be taken into account. In this context, providing counseling services to strengthen individuals' social support systems by health professionals can be an effective strategy in increasing treatment compliance. We believe that multi-center, longitudinal studies with high patient participation are needed on this subject.
