Abstract (EN)

Emergency services of the hospitals should be capable enough to rapidly evaluate the urgent diseases, to stabilize the patients and treat them. The aim of this study was to investigate demographic and etiologic characteristics of the exitus patients who died in the Emergency department of Adıyaman University Training and Research Hospital This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted between 01 January 2013 and 31 December 2015. Datas were collected retrospectively from hospital's medical records of all dead patients who were died in emergency department A total 355 patients lost their lives in the emergency department, during study period between the dates of 01.01.2013–31.12.2015. Mean age of all dead patients in emergency department was found as 57,8±20,46 years. Gender of dead patients were %53,80male and %46,20 female. Nearly all of cases were transported with ambulance. Chest pain was the most frequent symptom. Dyspnea and chest tightness followed the chest pain. 231(65, 1%) of the cases died because of cardiac diseases, 48(13,5%) of the cases died because of respiratory tract diseases and 16(4,5%) of the cases died because of cerebrovascular diseases. Deaths have the highest rate above 50 years old person and reach its maximum speeds over the ages 75 years. No relationship has been found amongst the cases in both gender and case type. Inadequacy of patient medical history record was major limitation on the study. Keywords: Adiyaman University, emergency department, exitus, demographic carhacteristics
