Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to analyze the disaster awareness and disaster preparedness levels of people living in Erzurum. In this quantitative study, descriptive and cross-sectional sampling methods were used. The sample group of the research consists of 400 people living in Erzurum, 200 women and 200 men. The data was collected with a survey form developed by the researcher and consisting of two parts. In the first part, demographic questions were asked, and in the second part, questions were asked to measure disaster awareness and preparedness. The raw data obtained through this form was analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 package program. It was subjected to Likert-type evaluation and scaled from 1 to 5. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, "Independent Sample t-Test" and "One-Way Variance (ANOVA) Test" were used in the analysis of the data. In addition, Anova Welch test was applied to groups whose variances were not distributed homogeneously. The "Tamhane" test, one of the "Posthoc" tests, was used to determine where the awareness between the variances with statistically significant results came from. Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was used for the internal consistency and reliability of the survey. According to the research results, both disaster awareness and disaster preparedness levels of the people living in Erzurum were at medium levels according to Likert-type score scaling. Disaster awareness levels were found to be high in individuals with a high level of education and who had previously been exposed to disasters themselves or their relatives. Individuals with high income levels have been found to have higher disaster preparedness levels. As a result, it is thought that the findings obtained in this research will contribute to increasing disaster awareness and disaster preparedness levels in Erzurum province.
