Abstract (EN)
During the time passed since Afghan Empire founded by Ahmet Şah Durrani, which is accepted as the predecessor of Afghanistan Islamic Republic, there have been long term instability in Afghanistan borders. This country has faced with Soviet pressure in the north and Britannic pressure in the south and it has failed in its attempts towards modernization and nation building. Aside from problems in economic structure, geographic structure, ineffective use of the resources, multicultural societal structure, insufficient education structure and lack of an effective court system, drug economy is considered as one of the most important causes of instability. In the literature, Afghanistan is considered as a part of the Golden Crescent, among Iran and Pakistan, and opium economy in this country has been on the rise since Soviet Socialist Republics Union occupation in 1989. Drug economy was initially tolerated by Western countries because it was financing the resistance of mujahids to Soviet Socialist Republics Union and it has also financed war efforts in civil war era. Deeply rooted political and economic instability in Afghanistan borders has always attracted terrorist organizations and organized crime syndicates. In today's world where political structures of different countries are deeply bonded with each other, security problems in Afghanistan threaten other countries in the region and intensify risks of global security problems. Key Words: Afghanistan, Instability, Taleban, Qandahar, Qabil
