Abstract (EN)

Although Afghanistan is one of the least developed countries in the world, studies show that this country has great biomass energy potential. Afghanistan has the potential to benefit significantly from this resource due to its natural and geographically suitable geographic location in terms of biomass energy resources. Biomass plays a major role in meeting Afghanistan's energy needs, with 79.9% of homes using solid fuel for cooking, compared to 97.4% for space heating. While urban homes use LPG as the primary fuel for cooking, wood and coal are the most important fuel sources for heating. Biomass energy is derived from a variety of sources (plant-based material and residues) and can be used in a variety of converting processes to generate power, heat, steam and fuel. Biomass energy sources, agricultural products, and residues (including animal waste); forestry products and residues, special energy crops; residues and by-products from food, animal feed, fiber, wood, and material processing plants; and post-consumer residues and waste such as municipal solid waste, wastewater, and landfill gases. In this study, an evaluation is made on the current capacities and potentials of Afghanistan's bioenergy resources. Drawing attention to the biomass diversity and high bioenergy potential of Afghanistan, its contributions to the welfare level of the people of Afghanistan and the advantages of alternative energy use have been evaluated.
