Analysis of the inproductivity of political parties in Afghanistan (2001-2020)

In this study, the role of political parties in democracy in general and the role and function of political parties in Afghanistan in the democratization effort of Afghanistan in particular have been examined. The study closes the period between 2001 and 2020, when the Taliban regime took over the administration from the collapse by international intervention. The findings of the study show that the most important reason for the dysfunction of political parties in Afghanistan is the ethnic-based formation and activity of the parties. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to the literature on the role of political parties in democracy in general and the structure of political parties in Afghanistan and their role in Afghanistan's democratization efforts in particular. The research consists of four parts. In the first part, the general orientation of the research, in the second part, the theoretical and conceptual framework and the foundations of political parties, the formation of political parties, their types and other issues related to parties are mentioned. In the third chapter, an overview of the political parties in Afghanistan, the political history of the parties in Afghanistan, the emergence of the Taliban and the structural difficulties of the political parties are discussed. In the last part, the pathology of political parties, the findings of the research, results and recommendations are discussed.
