Risk assessment in some sections of combustion and steam unit systems of Afşin-Elbistan B Thermal Power Plant

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the boiler section of Afşin-Elbistan B Thermal Power Plant was evaluated in terms of occupational health and safety. In this context, first of all, the sources of danger in the boiler section were determined. Then, a risk assessment was carried out to determine the risks that these sources of danger may cause. L Type Matrix method, which is one of the risk assessment decision matrix methods, was used in risk assessment. A total of 26 different sources of danger were identified in the boiler section of the mentioned power plant. It was determined that 14 of them were at the unacceptable risk level and 12 of them were in the medium risk group. It has been observed that the risk levels are at high levels. The measures to be taken and the work to be done in order to reduce the degrees in the unacceptable risk and medium risk groups to the acceptable risk level were determined as a result of the risk assessment. As a result of the risk assessment, it was determined that there are risks such as falling, hitting, burning, injury and poisoning. According to the risk scores obtained as a result of the risk assessment, it has been observed that these risks may cause undesirable consequences such as injury, occupational disease and death. The precautions to be taken are the use of personal protective equipment suitable for the working area, regular equipment checks and maintenance, taking the necessary safety precautions around the working area, and bringing the noise and lighting levels to the values specified in the standards.
